Letter From A Patient
“Many thanks to you and your able associate for fitting me in on short notice at your Brookline office at 5 p.m. yesterday, at the end of your day’s appointments. You both worked steadily on taking X-rays, cleaning, and drilling my teeth, and then installing nine very large fillings, staying until 8:30 p.m. One filling you built on a molar which had been largely destroyed by decay and the disintegration of previous fillings and the collapse of tooth walls. [It] required you to summon up the skills and art of a sculptor in silver amalgam.
I repeat my comment during our long work session: Of all the dentists from New York through the Midwest to California who have treated me since my childhood during the 1930s, you are the most skillful and patient at preparing my gums with a swabbed, topical anesthetic, and then administering hypodermic shots of Novocaine. At times I felt a fullness in my gum, but almost no pain. On the trolley car going home after our marathon session, my lower right jaw was a bit sore.
Upon awakening from an afternoon nap today, I find that all soreness and swelling in my lower right jaw has disappeared. My jaw feels even for the first time in years. There are no other after effects of our 3 1/2 hour session.
Your professional slogan, “Care With a Feather Touch” is an understatement!”
Gratefully yours,
D. Peter McIntyre
